Long Beach Training Camp

For the last two weekends we have been training with the rest of the US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider out of Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach, CA. We’ve put in long days on the water to make the most of it! We’ve been able to use an Oakcliff boat with our own sails which is great because it meant we didn’t have to bring a boat down there. That’s a huge relief since it’s been a busy time of year with Paris taking her AP tests and me getting ready for college nationals next week in Maryland. Massive thanks to the 49er guys who set up our boat before we even got down here!!

The conditions have been spectacular – sometimes it’s a little light in the late morning but by the afternoon the breeze fills in nicely and there has usually been some swell too. We’ve mostly been sailing outside of the breakwater and a couple of times we’ve sailed miles north all the way to Cabrillo Beach. It’s been really productive.

Thank you to the Raabs and ABYC for hosting us. To our coach Luther and guest coach for a day, Jon Rogers, thank you for all your insight!

Finally, a huge THANK YOU to Oakcliff Sailing Center for supporting this training camp so that we could speed tune with comparable and superb equipment, all in one place. We are excited to sail the Nationals at Oakcliff later this summer!
