On September 15, the 2014 ISAF World Championships begin here in Santander, Spain!
This is our peak event of 2014. We will be competing against 61 other teams from 29 nations. If we sail well enough to be in the top 10 countries, then we will have qualified the USA for one of only 20 spots at the 2016 Olympics. In addition, the #1 spot on the 2015 US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider in the 49erFX is up for grabs.
Santander is a port city on the north coast of Spain, near Bilbao. It’s a beautiful city and the city has gone to a lot of effort to make this event a success. Santander has been named the 2014 European City of Sport, partly due to hosting this huge event.
For the next week and a half we’ll be training and getting a feel for the conditions, making sure our boat is impeccable, and making sure that we’re physically and mentally ready for an intense week of sailing.
Worlds will be 2 days of qualifying races on Sept 15 & 16 to determine the Gold and Silver fleets. Then there will be 3 days of the final series, Sept 17, 19, & 20. Sept 18 is a reserve day. Finally, the medal races for the top ten teams on Sept 21.
We’d like to thank everyone who has helped us get to this point. To our families, friends, training partners, and supporters – we would not be here without you! We’re proud of how far we’ve come but we know we have everything to fight for here in Santander this month. We will do our absolute best. We love your messages and comments on our Facebook page – keep ’em coming! Thank you!
