Yesterday was pretty surreal… we qualified ourselves to Team USA for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro!
It was surreal for a few reasons: we are the first U.S. sailors to finish the qualification (by nature of the timing of the Olympic selection events), we sealed the deal two days early by being the only USA 49erFX team in the top 25 at this World Championships, and of course, it was surreal because this is the dream to which we have been completely devoting ourselves for years.
However, we couldn’t celebrate too much yet, as we’ve been sailing so well here at the 2016 World Championships that we are in position to make it into the medal race (top 10 only) tomorrow. We are currently in 11th and just a few points from the top 10… Results so far: http://49er.org/event/2016-world-championship/?event_id=5482
Thank you to the US Sailing Team Sperry‘s sponsors and staff, Expedia, our coaches Willie McBride and Ramon Oliden, our friends and families for believing in us since the start, and everyone who has donated to our campaign! Full recap and reflection to come when we catch our breath after the event.
